History

Our Curriculum

The history curriculum at Stoke High School inspires students to be curious and want to find out more about the past and how it has shaped the present.  Students will be equipped with the core knowledge required to identify significant events, make connections, draw contrasts, and analyse trends over time.  Students will be given the skills to understand concepts such as continuity, change, significance, cause, and consequence.

Students will be taught historical vocabulary to allow them to create relevant, structured responses using evidence.  At Key Stage 4, students can opt to take GCSE History where they deepen their knowledge and understanding of key events, periods, and societies, developing historical enquiry skills to investigate local, British, and history of the wider world.  Source analysis and interpretation skills will allow students to be able to engage in historical enquiry to develop as independent learners and as critical and reflective thinkers.
